The Standards Council of Canada is accepting nominations for membership into the Accreditation Advisory Panel (AAP).
Duties and responsibilities:
The AAP will undertake the following duties and responsibilities, as prescribed by its mandate, which include:
- Provide advice or comments on secondary SCC accreditation program documents and/or amendments thereto.
- Review and provide input on the strategic plan of the Branch.
- Suggest approaches to enhance conformity assessment involvement in standardization generally, and in alignment with Canadian priority sectors.
- Provide advice or comment with respect to the use and adaptation of documents, including those prepared by the IAF, ILAC and others, recognizing the hierarchy of international, national, foreign and industry standards.
- Share input and comments on conformity assessment positions to ISO/CASCO pertaining to activities, issues and/or documents in keeping with representative Canadian viewpoints and needs.
- Deliver perspective and advice on matters pertaining to initiating, promoting, and recognizing conformity assessment programs and tools.
- Help identify existing or emerging conformity assessment issues, challenges and solutions related to public policy concerns and expectations and provide advice on priorities for national programs.
- Offer advice on perceived opportunities for new conformity assessment programs or changes.
Working Methods
The Advisory Committee meets (in-person or virtual) at least once a year and when necessary to discuss specific topics. Also, much of the work takes place by correspondence with the support of the Branch Coordinator and/or Secretary.
Term of Office
The initial term of office for all members is three years. Up to 3 extensions, each of 3 years.
Essential Requirements
- Have relevant professional and standardization experience
- Act honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of SCC.
- Attend and participate in AAP meetings and the work of the AAP (in person, by teleconference or through other media).
- Perform your official duties in such a manner that public’s trust in the integrity, objectivity, and impartiality of the AAP and of is conserved and enhanced.
- respect the confidentiality of the materials provided and matters discussed.
- advise the Panel of a perceived, potential or actual conflict of interest situation and withdraw from discussion of that particular item, if appropriate.
- exercise the care, diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent person would exercise in comparable circumstances.
- advise of any change in job status; and
- comply with these Terms of Reference and any directives given to the AAP by SCC.
Resource Requirements
Members are expected to commit time and resources to support the AAP work activities including:
- Attending at minimum one AAP meeting (in person or virtual).
- Be able to participate actively in AAP meetings, to review and respond to AAP documents at meetings or by correspondence.
